- What personal documents do we need to enter Mexico?
To get into Mexico you need a valid passport, and it is a good idea to bring a copy of your birth certificate.
- What form of currency should we bring (U.S. cash, mexican cash, credit cards, travelers checks, etc)?
Dollars are widely accepted in Mexico, but you may not be given a good exchange rate everywhere, so we advise you buy an amount of pesos in bank or exchange house at the border if entering by land. Banks give a better rate, but once at the ranch you don't need any money except for tips or to purchase extra turkey permits, but you could pay for them in dollars if you like.
Better hotels and restaurants in Mexico accept major credit cards and traveler checks.
- If traveling by land, what are the requirements for car insurance?
We recommend that you purchase it at many of the companies you'll see announced at the border. It is available on the U.S. side at Sanborn's or Johnson's Insurance. You'll only need to show that the vehicle belongs to you and a valid driver's license.
- Will our cell phones work in Mexico or at the ranch, and is there e-mail or fax capability at the ranch?
Whether your cell phones will work in some parts of Mexico depends on what carrier you have, so check with them. Nevertheless, some parts of the route way to Durango may not have coverage. We have Internet acces, so you can send emails, use Skype or Windows Live Messenger to comunicate.
